UBEREats needs to up its game - poor service delivery
I have been a very active user of this service for the past year, since I became itinerant and didn't have a fixed home and workplace. Sadly, the companies which enrol with UBEREats don't seem to delivery service or food that is up to standard. Now, one can argue that this isn't UBEREats's fault or problem, and yet it is. Here's what happens: I place an order with an online food vendor via UBEREats. I choose the items and the invoice is generated and I am askef whether I wish to tip the delivery person. I invariably used to tip 15% for each delivery and at times, when I saw extra effort from the delivery person, I'd tip in cash too. By t his time, UBEREates has debited (or placed a hold) on money in my account for the food / delivery service and tip.
Sadly, this is where the GOOD UBEREats service stops - Once inside, I check my order, and 4 / 5 times, the order is faulty. Over the past week I have had no less than 2 orders delivered where the principal portion of the order is missing, or side orders have been forgotten.
I complain, UBER refunds that portion (sometimes with a bit of a struggle to get them to refund me), but they eventually do, but the tip to the driver was based on the total of the order - let's say the order came to R500.00 - I tiped R65.00, but the item which was missed was R197.00 - which I get refunded, but this reduces the total order price to R303.00. Instead of a tip of R65.00, the tip should have been R45.45 - after 10 of these "adjusted" payments, I could be as much as R200.00 down the drain for deliveries of incorrect foods, missing foods or badly prepped and packaged foods that spilled all over the other food and was served to me as a mess.
I find this service less appealing every day and wish there were alternatives.
Obviously, the short-delivery isn't the delivery person's fault, or is it? Should there not be checks and balances built into the service that EVERY ORDER IS CAREFULLY CHECKED between the dispatcher at the restuarant and the collecting driver?
In this instance I am tipping for poor service.
The problem, more often than not, is that in South Africa, the delivery guys are seldom good at English, mostly from Zimbabwe and other countries and some don't even understand English. How are they to check these orders.
I am starting to feel that UBER(Eats), for the disruption and innovation it brought to many industries, needs to up its game, as it really is a HUGE frustration.
In closing, I lived in Cape Town for the past 9 years. The delivery problems there were distance and time related, with the odd slip-up in food provision, but in Port Elizabeth, where I have been living for the past month, this is almost a given that the order(s) would be faulty.
Perhaps a regional manager for UBEREats needs to do some trouble-shooting and training of dispatchers at restaurants.
