I ordered Uber Eats yesterday evening around 1700hrs and marked it as priority for which i paid an extra R12. I sat in my sitting room waiting for my order and checking the app as i was quite hungry. When i saw that the app was saying the food is 2mins away, i called my daughter who proceeded to get keys for the gate and went out to collect the order. To my surprise, she said there was no one outside, and when i checked my phone, it said enjoy your order. This was now 1729hrs. Immediately, i wrote to uber support to tell them that my order had not arrived, and they responded requiring further confirmation that i had not received my order as i had contacted them shortly after the order was marked delivered. I responded confirming this and did not hear from them for a while after that. I kept writing to them, and at some point i requested to be connected to the driver, who was not coherent at all about what had happened, insisting that she had called me, and uber had also called me, but my phone never rang. i checked my phone after the driver dropped the call on me, and saw a missed call at 1724hrs. After several more messages to Uber, they then said the driver had waited the allowed time before leaving. i kept pestering them for the "allowed time which they eventually said was more than 8 minutes, which is certainly not the time the driver waited at all. Uber is allowing their drivers to **** their customers because not only did i pay for food i didn't get, they allow their drivers to take the food. Where are the checks and balances? How do they confirm that the customer was indeed not available? If the driver called at 1724 and concluded the order at 1729, does that constitute waiting for more than 8 minutes? And where is my recourse as a customer who has even paid for priority delivery?
