Motion to suspend uber eats operations in SA

🚨 Important Notice to All South Africans Who Use Uber Eats 🚨 The screenshots below show exactly what happens when a global company thinks it can operate in South Africa without respecting our laws or our people. Recently, Uber Eats refused to refund an order that was clearly delivered to the wrong address—despite: ✅ Accurate delivery instructions specifying the colour of our gate ✅ Clear communication that the gate was open for easy access ✅ The driver reading every message and ignoring them ✅ A photo taken by the driver showing the meal outside someone else’s gate When we contacted Uber Eats, they claimed the account had “multiple price adjustments” and used this as an excuse not to refund the order. Let’s be absolutely clear: The price adjustments on our account are rightful and the direct result of Uber Eats repeatedly failing to deliver correctly. Every single refund was for non-delivery or damaged meals—issues that Uber Eats themselves caused. This practice of blaming the customer for “too many adjustments” is not only *********—it is ******** in South Africa. 📢 We remind Uber Eats and all consumers that South African law protects your right to fair service and refunds for undelivered or defective goods. Here are some of the relevant laws Uber Eats is ignoring: Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, Sections 20 & 56: Your right to return goods and receive a refund if they were not delivered as agreed or are defective. Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002, Section 44: Your right to cancel and receive a refund for non-delivery. Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO) Code of Conduct, which Uber Eats subscribes to. As hardworking South Africans, we will not tolerate this exploitation. 🚫 Effective immediately, our company has ended our Uber One membership. 🚫 We will no longer support Uber Eats. ✅ We have logged a case of ***** with our local police station. ✅ We have filed a complaint with the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud. We are also inviting all unhappy Uber Eats customers to contact us. If you’ve been refused a refund or experienced similar treatment, we will help you file your complaint. Most people don’t know where to start—we will assist you. 💼 As a business that orders food daily for our directors and staff, we will now support local food delivery services that value integrity and respect their customers. 📣 If you have been wronged, here’s how you can take action: ✅ Log your complaint directly with the CGSO: https://www.cgso.org.za/cgso/decision-tree/ ✅ Email us your screenshots and details: *** We are gathering complaints with the intention to file a motion in the High Court to suspend Uber Eats operations within South Africa if this pattern continues. It is shocking that a company would receive indisputable evidence of non-delivery and still blatantly refuse to refund. This is a sickening way to operate in our country. 📢 Enough is enough. We stand for accountability. We stand for South Africans. Join us in taking action. #StandUpForConsumers #ConsumerRightsSA #BoycottUberEats #SupportLocal
