Missing food with uber eats
Another frustrating experience with Uber Eats South Africa! 😡
I placed an order at 19:13, expecting the convenience of having my food delivered to my door. However, the app kept changing the estimated delivery time — first 9 minutes, then 13 minutes, then 10 minutes. Eventually, I had enough and decided to get into my car and drive to the restaurant myself!
When I arrived, I went to the collection area where Uber Eats drivers collect their orders. There was nobody there.
A lady from the restaurant approached me and said she would call her manager. When the manager arrived, she told me that she had handed my food to the delivery driver about 5–10 minutes earlier.
She asked me to come inside so she could speak to me, but I noticed a delivery driver standing at the collection door, so I went outside to speak to him.
The driver told me he had NOT collected my order.
So now I have a problem… The manager says the food was handed to the driver, but the driver says he never received it. Someone's story isn't adding up! 🤔
And this is exactly how customers end up losing money through Uber Eats in South Africa.
What makes this even more frustrating is that this isn't the first time this has happened to me. I've previously had situations where I've ended up having to drive all the way to the restaurant to sort out an order that was supposed to be delivered.
So seriously, what is the point of ordering delivery in the first place?
We pay for the food, we pay delivery fees, and we expect a service. We shouldn't have to leave our homes, drive to restaurants and investigate where our food has disappeared to!
Uber Eats South Africa, something needs to change. Customers deserve accountability, transparency and a delivery service they can actually rely on.
Has anyone else experienced this? Are other South Africans having the same problems?
