Misleading Onboarding Process Cost Me Time and Money as a Student Driver
I am extremely disappointed with my experience attempting to register as an Uber Eats delivery driver.
As a student looking to earn extra income, I followed all the required steps in good faith. I paid approximately R300 for a background check, R400 for a vehicle security check, and R800 for an official Uber Eats delivery bag. These are significant expenses, especially for someone in my position.
Before making these payments, I contacted support consultants multiple times to confirm the process. I was clearly informed that once my delivery bag was received and I provided proof of it, I would be able to start delivering immediately.
However, after finally receiving my bag and submitting the required proof, I was then told that I was not eligible to begin delivering. This directly contradicts the information I was given earlier.
It is incredibly frustrating to have invested both time and money based on assurances from your consultants, only to be denied the opportunity to work afterward. From my perspective, it feels as though I was encouraged to spend money on required items, only to be blocked from earning anything in return.
This experience has been both financially and emotionally disappointing, and I hope Uber Eats takes steps to improve transparency and accountability in its onboarding process.
