Victimised Twice, Failed Twice by TymeBank – Unsafe Tap-to-Pay Cards & No Urgent Support

I am writing this in shock, trauma, and deep disappointment after being ****** for the second time this year, and once again TymeBank has failed to protect me as their long-term client.

1. ******* today on 11 December 2025 – Transaction timeline

At 11:20AM, I received funds into my TymeBank account.

At 12:22PM, I made a purchase at a local store.

Just after crossing the road on my way home into the passage that leads home I was attacked by two men wearing COVID masks and a black hoodie.

I was pushed to the ground, searched, and they took my TymeBank card and the items I had purchased.

They ran toward the road and disappeared.

When I reached my home (I had luckily left my phone there), I saw transactions on my app:

At 12:41PM, R800 was withdrawn from an ATM located about 15 minutes away.

They first performed a balance enquiry at 12:4PM, then withdrew the exact available amount because of only R813.44 was available, I was then charged R7.00 for balance enquiry, R10.00 withdrawal fee then R0.50 SMS notification fee.

I immediately stopped the card and called TymeBank to open a ***** case.

***** Case No.: GFD337269

I am traumatised, terrified, and still in disbelief that this could happen again and even worse that TymeBank is handling this with such insensitivity and delay.

2. This is the SECOND ******* involving my TymeBank card

Earlier this year, I was ****** at knife point at Wonderpark Mall (Pretoria) inside the public toilets. Minutes later, R500 was withdrawn.

TymeBank has a record that I went to replace my card after the first *******.

Yet despite TWO violent ******ies, TymeBank has:

Not provided any safety solution

They do not even allow us to disable Tap-to-Pay

Not improved any of their card security features

Not offered urgent assistance despite the clear risk

3. At this point I am 100% convinced that the root of the problem is TymeBank’s forced tap to pay feature

TymeBank cards come with tap-to-pay permanently enabled. Unlike other banks, there is no option to disable this feature 😡😡😡

This is reckless and exposes clients to ********s who:

Don’t need the PIN

Don’t need the phone

Don’t need any verification

Can simply tap the card or do rapid transactions before clients can react

TymeBank told me “they could only have withdrawn money using the card PIN” which is impossible because:

I did not give my PIN to anyone

I did not write it down

I was attacked within minutes after the transaction

The ********s did a balance enquiry AND a full withdrawal at lightning speed

TymeBank already has a history of tap-related ***** cases from other customers as seen under Hello Peter reviews

There is no way in hell that TymeBank has no absolute idea that ATMs now have Tap & Go options and for their bank to act shocked shows just how much theh have no interest whatsoever in protecting their clients instead they act shocked like the lady I spoke to over the phone who was so adamant that this transaction took place because I gave away my card PIN.

This refusal to take responsibility is unacceptable.

4. TymeBank’s shocking response

After my call, TymeBank told me:

“We will revert to you in January.”

January?? My money was ****** now. I am a victim of violent crime, for the second time this year. I bank all my income with TymeBank and have been a client for almost 10 years. I bank thousands every month, have credit with them, and never miss a payment.

I deserve urgent help. Not a “wait until January”.

5. What I am demanding

I am not asking for anything unreasonable. I want:

1. An immediate refund of the ****** amount (R800) plus all bank charges for this transaction.

2. A proper investigation into the Tap-to-Pay vulnerability.

3. A formal explanation why customers are forced to keep Tap-to-Pay active.

4. Urgent escalation of my case — not a one-month delay.

5. Accountability for leaving clients exposed to well-known card ***** methods.

TymeBank must stop pretending this is a customer issue. It is their security flaw, and their refusal to allow disabling of Tap-to-Pay puts thousands of clients at risk daily.

This is financial abuse, every time we are ******, the bank washes their hands while ********s exploit their unsafe card design.

6. I want justice

I refuse to suffer twice. I refuse to keep losing my hard-earned money because TymeBank refuses to prioritise customer safety.

I am asking HelloPeter to hold TymeBank accountable, and I expect TymeBank to address and resolve this matter urgently.

I want my money back. I want this security flaw fixed. And I want TymeBank to take responsibility for the risk they force upon their clients.

Thank you for responding, but I want to make this absolutely clear:

I am demanding a refund of my ****** money, regardless of the outcome of your internal investigation.

I refuse to accept a response that simply says,
“We are investigating and will update you.”

This is the second time this year that I have been ****** at and money was immediately withdrawn from my TymeBank card.

Both times, ********s acted within minutes, and both times TymeBank’s card security failed me as a woman when already we are the main targets for crime in South Africa the least you can do as a bank is create tighter measures to protect us.

I will not carry the financial loss caused by a security feature you force on your us, especially after previously thousands of your customers have reported this too and you still do nothing about it.

Let me be clear once again:

I want my money refunded.
Not in January, not after weeks of waiting, NOW.

Your “investigation” cannot be used as a shield to avoid responsibility for a known risk that TymeBank refuses to address.

I expect immediate escalation, immediate accountability, and immediate reimbur*****t.

Thank you.

I was not made aware to expect any call from TymeBank.

I DID NOT GIVE ANYONE MY PIN! Any suggestion otherwise is false and unacceptable. I was attacked, my card was taken, and ********s withdrew money immediately afterward.

I AM the victim here — not TymeBank.

Your statement that this “indicates a PIN was used” is irrelevant to the fact that your card design allowed ********s to withdraw funds within minutes of a violent *******. The Tap-to-Pay feature is permanently enabled with no option to disable it. This is a known security risk that you refuse to address.

I am not disputing a point-of-sale transaction; I am disputing a violent ******* that resulted in immediate theft from my account again. Your “full review” cannot absolve TymeBank from responsibility for this unsafe card design.

I demand:

1. Immediate refund of R800 + Transactional Fees

2. Acknowledgment that the Tap-to-Pay design poses real risks to customers

3. Escalation of this matter with urgency — not a delayed investigation

I will not accept insinuations that I am at fault for the ******** actions of others. TymeBank is fully aware of the risk, yet continues to force Tap-to-Pay on its customers. I expect my money back immediately 😡😡😡

I did not give anyone my PIN.

I do not care what your investigation concludes. I want my money refunded immediately.

If TymeBank does not refund me, I will escalate this directly to the Ombudsman for Banking Services and take further legal action.

Your card feature exposes us to real risk, and blaming victims is unacceptable 😡💯💯💯
