Termination of contract using word of mouth and unprofessional-ism

What a disappointment!!!!!!!!!!!!! My sister worked for Thyme Bank (initially it was a contract that was supposedly had to end on the 7th June 2019, because of the services they still needed to render they were told that they should continue and that they will receive new contracts. They continued, we are also remembering the high employment rate in South Africa. On Friday the 19th July the area manager went to the employees to tell them that their contract is terminated with immediate effect. Maybe I do not know the labor law policies but shouldn't there be paper work and contracts put in place? I fail to understand. How does a company continuously pay a salary to a person whom their contract ended over a month ago? Can someone be liable for this? Is this how we terminate peoples contracts? after rendering a service to the company?
