Pensioners being de*****ed by **** at Tyme bank

My mother is a pensioner , a few weeks ago she was harassed by people who claim to be calling from Tyme bank , she declined their requests a few times until this one time they called minutes before her state pension would be paid . Out of panic , my mother answered and believed the story that someone is committing ***** on her account and that they would be assisting her to prevent that from happening .They managed to access her bank account as soon as the money came in and cleaned every cent .We opened a case but Tyme bank has not bothered to call and explain their findings , they only sent her an sms to say she compromised her details when they too had compromised her because the person who called already had her details , knew the exact minute the money would be coming in, and knew how their system works . On the basis of age , they could have investigated and dealt with this matter differently and sensitively .My mother was in distress, her blood pressure went up and had no penny as she only survived on this grant . She was forced to go to sassa and stand in those long queues again to change her banking details because we cannot trust Tyme bank anymore .

If you remain unhappy with the resolution of your matter, you are at liberty to lodge a complaint with the National Financial Ombud Scheme (also called the “NFO”).

The NFO is an umbrella Financial Services Ombud scheme formed by the amalgamation of 4 separate previously existing South African Ombud Schemes: the offices of the Banking Ombud (OBS); the Credit Ombud (CO); the office of the Long-term Insurance Ombud (OLTI); and the Short-Term Insurance Ombudsman (OSTI). The NFO commenced operations on 1 March 2024.

The NFO is an external complaint resolution ombud scheme established in terms of Chapter 14 of the Financial Sector Regulation Act 9 of 2017, and is tasked with resolving complaints between financial services providers and complainants in a fair, effective, impartial and timely manner – without charge to complainants. The NFO adjudicates complaints in terms of its rules which can be found on the website of the NFO: www.nfosa.co.za

But aren’t you supposed to escalate this matter through relevant channels before referring me to the ombud ? Are you passing the buck ?

You as the bank compromised my mom’s details as well. This is an internal ***** where the very same field workers who go to sassa and supermarkets targeting pensioners are the ones you give out customer information to *****sters . You rush to open accounts and chase numbers but when it comes to service you you underdeliver . You don’t protect customer information , and none of the big banks would handle such a complaint in this manner, you do not call and explain to my mother , you are treating her like a second class citizen. When we submit a complaint via this channel you respond with generic email and one word answers which is very unprofessional , for a bank that doesn’t have a branch you should do better . I’m escalating this case to your ceo, since you fail to escalate it in the right channels or lack thereof .
