Watch out for the hidden costs & terms of sale purchasing cellphones on account with Truworths
Walked into your shop @ Greenacres, Port Elizabeth to buy a cellphone ( Samsung A20 ) at the advertised price of R3299. the purchase would of been concluded on my truworths account.
Your cellphone sales assistant asked for my card to check if I qualify to purchase the phone on my account, which I did, he returned, asked which colour phone I wanted, asked for my ID book, Proof of address, he took the phone from storage and we headed to your till points to finalise the sale.
At the till point, I asked for the phone to be paid over 12 months, whereby the sales assistant told me that phones can only be purchased over 6 months, which was fine with me, but then she dropped another bomb, she informed me that another 25% of the phone's listed price will be added !!!
So, a phone that sells for R2599 cash at other retailers, your asking price is R3299 and if bought on account, you add another 25% to that, giving a total price of R4123.75. that's an over charge of R1524.75 when compared to other retailers.
Shame on you for charging exorbitant prices for clients in good standing on their accounts, you trying to make up your losses ( bad clients ) by overcharging your good customers?
I seriously suggest you start adding info material at all your cellphone selling points EXPLAINING the exorbitant prices charged on cellphones when purchasing on account, as I had to be humiliated in front of a que of customers by declining the purchase based on a lack of information provided to me BEFORE standing in-front of the till point.
I will get my account balance to zero in the next couple of months and then CLOSE my account with you, seems you need more "bad / non-paying" customers than good standing customers.
We will investigate your concerns raised and will provide you with feedback soon.
Kind regards,
Truworths Online Team

This just confirms the level of incompetence one has to deal with.
Tough times ahead in South Africa, you better start looking after your good customers, if not, soon you will notice the drop in sales, and an increase in non paying customers.....
