Was the bad service I received at #TRUWORTHS race related?

On Thursday, 22 November 2018 (between 18h00 & 19h00) together with my fiancé we were shopping for our wedding items at Truworths Zevenwacht Mall.

My fiancé wanted a specific shoe size of a pair of shoes (on display). There was no one at the shoe department to assist. She looked around the floor and found no sales assistant. She had to go all the way the tellers to get assistance. The teller went to the shoe department looking for someone to assist. The teller came to us and stated that “there was someone at the shoe department, she was just at the back”. My question: “was I suppose to go find her at the back?”. Be that as it may, a young man came to assist. The young man asked my fiancé for her shoe size. She then gave it to him: “size 6”. He confirmed twice before going to fetch the shoe size and ONLY to return with a wrong size. My fiancé insisted for the right size. Eventually he returned with the right shoe size. The young man asked if we were still busy or done with our shopping. We answered that we are done shopping. He then told us that we will be getting the box of shoes at the tellers. We asked why? He answered, I quote: “company policy”. I then looked around and saw some of the customers had their clothing item as well as their shoe boxes. I asked the young man to tell me more about the policy especially the part where other customers get to keep their own shoe boxes and us not. Once again, he answered: “unfortunately, company policy”. I asked another question: “when was this policy implemented?”. The reason why I asked this question was that two months ago we purchased a pair shoes from the very same store and there was no such issues experienced. The answer I got was that he was informed about the policy the very same morning. The young man then walked away towards the tellers...

The things that made me more disgusted than the poor service we had received was the humiliation both my fiancé and I experienced in front of other customers. Also we were made to seem as if we were ************* and outcasts. Most disgustingly, I could not help but to notice that we were the only ones of a different race from those who had their shoe boxes on hand. With that said, YES, I personally felt discriminated against my race.
