Truworths unhelpful - really disappointed

I received a gift for my birthday in April which has it's tag on which is too big, Truworths still has the item in store for the same purchase price... I went to Clearwater Truworths on Saturday and was told I need the original slip. Please advise if the purchaser is in another province or country , how would they handle this and how must I get the receipt now? I believe that this is your exchange policy which is absolutely ridiculous as this was a gift. How can you assist me????
