Truworths stole our money!!

On Wednesday the 4th May 2016 I went to Truworths at Vangate mall to pay my account. I asked the woman how much I'm owing for the month and she tells me "R75" .. I then told her I want to pay R200. So I give her my debit card and she swipes off R200. The card machine says "approved" but the Truworths slip says "declined" so she swipes again and gives me a convincing story about how this has been happening with standard bank all day and that yes it's saying approved but it's actually not and she knows the money isn't going through because it's not reflecting on their Truworths slip as it kept saying declined.. (If they knew this was a problem why didn't they tell customers in the first place to withdraw money?) Anyway so I believe her story as her co worker also confirms to me that the money is not being taken off my card. I end up giving them R200 cash and I receive a slip saying I paid Truworths R200. I get home and I log onto my standard bank app and it shows me that R200 has been taken off my card, twice! I go back to the mall to show them that my money came off my card, meaning I paid R600 in total to Truworths? R200 cash and R400 from my card.. I go to the same lady and I show her the proof on my standard bank app and when I got there, there were two other ladies who were there with the same problem. All they could tell us was that they are contacting standard bank and that our money will be reversed back into our standard bank accounts. I asked her how long the process will take, and she told me 2/3 days .. It's now day 4 and I still don't have my money back.. This is ridiculous .. They making their problem ours.. That is why I will expose them like this on the media. We need our money back!

Thank you for your post and allowing us the opportunity to respond. We acknowledge your frustration and can verify that a problem had indeed occurred with some Standard Bank debit card transactions on the 04 May 2016. As soon as the error was identified this was communicated to all our stores to inform customers of the error and that the funds for duplicated transactions would be reversed by 06 May as per Standard Bank. We can verify that we have sent you a copy of the letter received from Standard Bank regarding this issue. Should these funds not have been reversed to your bank account we kindly urge you to contact Standard Bank to further assist you in this regard. Kind regards, Truworths Online Team
