Truworths steeling my money

On Tuesday, 24 March I bought clothes to the value of over R4000 from Truworths. That same evening I had an emergency where I realised I needed the R4000. The next morning I returned all the clothes - untouched. When I bought the clothes I paid with my debit card and as usual the money was in their bank account immediately. When I returned the clothes the person assisting me was not really in the mood to help me but did so nevertheless. I raised my concern with him as I never saw him reversing the changes and my phone was silent (no refund). What I didn't realise then was that he failed to inform me that my money would not be in my account immediately. When I returned to the shop the next day the manager told me the money would be in within 2 days, then they phoned their banking department who said that it would be in within 5 day. Leaving the store in a huff I posted my dissatisfaction on their facebook page where they told me that my money will only be in after 11 days. How is it possible that any retailer can get away with steeling my money for so long in our day and age of technology.

Hello cabell,

Thank you for affording us the opportunity to address your concerns.

When items are returned, we will permit a full refund in the original method of tender. We contacted the Store Manager at the relevant store, and were informed that when you subsequently returned to the store, you were informed that the money would not immediately reflect onto your bank account.

The Truworths account is debited the same day that these types of transactions takes place at the stores. However, then the onus of the refund becomes that of the customer's bank. This could be anything between 2 - 4 working days for credit cards, and 2 - 10 working days for cheque/debit cards.

As per our recent communication, we are pleased to confirm that you have been refunded with your full amount paid to Truworths. Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused as a result of this matter.

Your support is valued, and we trust that this response has adequately addressed your concerns.

Regards,
Charmaine
