Truworths needs to close that *****urant account opened without my authorization

On Wednesday 16 May 2018, I received a call from Truworths informing me that I had an account with them that is in arrears. This is very disturbing to me because in no instance did I opened an account at Truworths nor do I shop at Truworths.

My ID number is registered with SAFPS. So I fail to understand as to how this person was able to open accounts in my name when my ID is registered at SAFPS and Truworths is a member of SAFPS? Retailers get an alert every time someone tries to open an account in my name. The laws of South Africa require companies to thouraghly verify documents provided by customers before approving any accounts.

After further inquiries I was told that the account was preapproved meaning Truworths was sending preapproved letters to activate accounts to an address they assume is mine. This is very worrying given that I have never been associated with Truworths. When I try to contact their ***** department for assistance I get zero assistance just a we will call you back which is utterly disrespectful given that we would not be in this mess if their staff were competent and they followed due processes when opening accounts.
