Truworths- Mall@Carnival **************

I got discriminated at for being transgender. I am a transgender male, which means I was born female and transitioned into male, but my South African ID has not been changed yet, therefore all of the personal information on there is still those of a female. Anyway, I got an offer for a Truworths store card, I just had to take my ID to the store to activate it. As expected, there was a problem with the information on the ID not corresponding to how I physically appear. I took it upon myself to openly tell me that I am transgender and that ot is in fact, my Id that they are holding. One of the employees started walking around the shop with my ID card and started showing everyone and pointing at me and laughing, while the other employee was at least trying to help me. About 20 minutes later, the store manager came out and asked about the situation and I had to explain everything to her again. She left with my ID, apparently to check with someone on how to go about the situation as they "were not trained on the specific situation and therefore do not know how to approach it". I explained to her that I didn't have a problem at another store when opening an account with them, only a brief explanation was needed and got my card the same day. When the manager came back she said that she now has to go through training first so that she knows how to better the situation when something like this happens again. Long story short, after more than an hour standing there, hearing and seeing the other employees laugh about me infront of my face, I was asked by the manager to come back on another day, then only will they be able to correctly help me, because they did not want it to seem like they're discriminating against me, when that was exactly what they were busy doing the whole time I was there, and only because I just wanted to open up a store account. I can't believe that in 2021 there is still a problem when it comes to not being "trained" on how to go about a situation with a transgender person. I had no problem with the documentation being in my birth name, but because there was a slight difference in how I look on my ID (which I got when I was 16 years old/ 5 years ago) and how I look now. This is both frustrating and useless at the same time, because now I'm even rethinking if I should go back or not, because I don't want to be at a place where I'm being discriminated at and being laughed at all because of ******** staff members.
