Truworths Doesn't Care about POPIA
I've noted that when attempting to make a purchase on a Truworths account, customers are asked, as part of the verification process at the till, to confirm their residential address and telephone number. This is often done in an open retail environment with other customers and staff members within earshot.
To me, this represents a significant concern from a privacy and information security perspective. Personal information such as a customer's address and contact details should be treated with the utmost care and discretion. Requiring customers to verbally disclose this information in a public setting creates a risk of unauthorised disclosure and could potentially expose individuals to misuse of their personal information (POPIA BREACH).
In an era where the protection of personal information is of paramount importance, I would have expected additional safeguards to be in place to ensure that sensitive customer details are not openly shared in the presence of third parties.
