TRUWORTHS DEMANDING ID NUMBER FOR CASH SALE TO QUALIFY FOR PROMO DISCOUNT

Truworths currently running - BUY ANY 2 selected essentials items and get 30% off on the lower price. 1. Large mobile front of store stating up to 50% off… 2. Sticker on the 2 items I selected - Buy any 2…as mentioned above (in small print (Ts & Cs apply). Off to till with my items to be asked for my ID number and if Im not willing to supply my personal ID number - I dont qualify for the discount. He couldnt explain why its needed either. Caught off guard and embarrassed - and as I refused to share this info as Im a cash buyer - I told him to proceed not to be embarrassed further. Ive just sent an email to Truworths and await their response. Its sad to think that some retail companies lure customers into their shops and then to be told - either supply you personal ID number - or loose out on the discount, at the pay-point. Yes there were (see Ts & Cs in smaller print in the sticker) and of course we all immediately go online to search for these and read everything - Not!! POPIA protects consumers against this? - how can they even still be allowed do this to consumers? How many thousands are not aware of the risks giving out personal info especially on a CASH SALE?! Nowhere does Truworths mention to qualify - you have to produce you ID as a cash deal. Ie. BUY ANY 2 …produce your ID number and you qualify for 30% discount…”. In their advertising. Im sure its covered in their general terms to cover them though. I have never bought from anywhere where they ask for an ID number to qualify for a discount on cash sale. And you have a right to refuse without losing out on the deal or being discriminated against for not agreeing to this on a cash sale. My money is worth the same as the person buying on account? Less interest of course. I feel the consumer is being mislead by their advertising to gain their personal information for many reasons to try drive their business. In my opinion - Truworths cannot guarantee the safety of consumer information. BE AWARE & DONT SHARE PERSONAL INFORMATION. Shame on you Truworths for trying to trick unsuspecting consumers.
