Returning goods

I went to Truworths trying 2 return shoes but had no receipt as it was a gift. I was told that there's nothing they can do without the receipt and the person who bought it is in Cape Town . If I lost a receipt then it's my loss if am no longer interested in the goods. I was unhappy with the outcome and would like to return those shoes for a voucher and use it at a later stage.
