Relentless Harassment by Truworths Debt Collection - Over 100 Calls/Month Despite Honouring Payments

Harassed Daily Despite Keeping My Payment Arrangement

I am writing this review out of utter frustration and emotional exhaustion. I am a Truworths account holder who has hit a tough patch financially. To my credit, I have never skipped a payment. I arranged with Truworths to pay a certain amount every month, which I have honoured religiously, even if sometimes the payment is a little late.

Despite this, their debt collection department has subjected me to what I can only describe as harassment. Last month, I received OVER 100 CALLS from various numbers linked to Truworths. Since the week started they've been calling me every 30 minutes to an hour more than 10 times a day and I keep explaining the very same thing to each consultant. The calls come at all hours, sometimes every hour, even after I've made my payment for the week or month.

Yesterday, an agent called me. After confirming my payment, she coldly stated they would "make it a point" to call me again to "check how far I am with the payment." This constant surveillance and pressure is demeaning. I feel disrespected and treated like a ********, not a loyal customer who is communicating and paying what they can.

I understand they need to collect debts, but this level of aggression towards someone who is actively paying is unacceptable, *********, and feels like bullying. It causes immense anxiety and stress. I am fulfilling our agreement, yet they are breaking the basic respect a customer deserves.

My plea to Truworths management: Please train your agents and review your dialler systems. Distinguish between customers who have abandoned their debts and those, like me, who are diligently sticking to an arrangement. Constant calls do not magically produce more money; they only produce trauma.

To other consumers, be warned. If you ever fall behind, even while paying, prepare for an overwhelming and distressing barrage of calls that shows little regard for your circumstances or mental well-being.

I am now considering taking this matter to the National Credit Regulator (NCR) and the Credit Ombud, as I believe this violates the principles of fair debt collection.
