POPIA breach by Truworths

Pathetic service!!!

I attempted to exchange at item on Saturday at around 10am at the fourways mall Truworths that was purchased for me as a gift.

There was a difference in the item value and as such the manger and cashier debited my account for R320.

After the transaction went off and I got a slip as well as bank confirmation of the transaction, they then informed me that the system would not allow them to process the purchase as it was an account purchase and that I would need to find and item of the same or lesser value.

I then proceeded to do this and found a cheaper item at which time the exchange was performed however the store could not provide me with a refund receipt for the R320 that went of my account as they said the transaction would reverse within 15 to 20 minutes.

I asked for a receipt for the reversal but they said they could not as it would reverse on its own.

I then left the store only to find that the transaction has still not reversed.

Further to this,I then called the store this yesterday to inform them of such and spoke to the manager and she assured me she would check and call me back.

No call back was received and they seem happy to keep my money!!!

I went into the store today and spent 15 minutes trying to get this resolved only to be told that the money was refunded into the person who purchased the exchanged items account which they had assured me would not happen on Saturday as they did not allow me to take the initial item that I wanted due to POPIA reasons where they told me,it would be a POPIA breach.

So what is it?Is Truworths violating POPIA and allowing anyone to transact on your account or are they ****ming us into taking a lower value item to retain the difference in payment on exchanges?
