MTN Sales at Truworths
On Friday, 25th of August 2017, I was at Truworths Mall of Africa to purchase a handset for my sister using my truworths account.
My understanding is when I purchase a handset I need to RICA it using the details of the person who will be the owner of the handset so, My sister was present with her ID and proof of residence.
We were denied the purchase because apparently the rules are a bit difference for Truworths account holders. According to this sales assistant I, as the person paying for the handset, also needed to bring "proof of residence", the reason was they needed to attach my RICA details to the slip.
This made absolutely no sense so I asked the manager to explain how this was different from a normal cash sale and she said she wasn't sure and I had to take the sales assistance word.
The sales assistant further went on to accuse us of trying to commit *****. How is this possible when I have my ID for the purchase leg of the sale and my sister has an ID and proof of residence for the RICA leg?
Having been an account holder for about 3 years this was a very embarrassing experience!
