drivers lic and shopping. Where is the link????
My dad opened a Truworths acc last month at the PMB branch. It was quick and fuss free & all he it required was his drivers license as a proof of identification. He hadnt received the truworths card as yet when shopping at the Gateway branch on friday (12/06/2015). So when he queried how to go about purchasing on his account without his card, he was told it wouldn't be a problem as the proof of ID , the drivers lic would be sufficient. Before purchasing on the account he made an acc payment. upon handing over the drivers lic, the cashier noticed the license expired in May. He explained he app**** for a new 1 & was waiting to collect it. The account payment was made using the expired drivers license. he was then told that he would not be allowed to purchase on his truworths acc with an expired driver lic. how is it that the same expired lic was used to open the acc, make a payment, but was no longer valid to purchase with??? Your identity does NOT expire with a drivers lic!!!! Staff need to be more clued up on their procedures & it should be standard across the board. Not to mention these procedures should make sense !!!!! My dad has since closed his Truworths account.
Thank you for your post and for giving us the opportunity to clarify your concerns.
At Truworths we make every attempt to ensure the protection of our customer' accounts. As we view issues of irregular credit activity in a very serious light, we have strict policies and procedures in place that our stores are required to adhere to at all times.
Our store consultant thus correctly informed the account holder that they were not allowed to process the sale without valid proof of identification.
As you mentioned in your post the account belongs to your father. We therefore confirm that we have contacted him to discuss this matter.
We once again thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention and trust that you will be able to understand our stance in this regard.
Should you have any further comments or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us on *** or via email on ***.
Kind regards,
Lynn
