denied exchange

The only store i know who cannot exchange an item since there is no receipt. Kindly advise why a store as big and old as truworths cannot assist in a simple exchange. I had to go back and fetch my bank card and they tell me they can pick it up but cannot do a reprint therefore sorry we can’t help. MIND YOU THE TAG IS STILL THERE.
