Defective Product

I am writing to formally escalate a serious grievance regarding a severely defective product and the subsequent, highly unprofessional handling of this matter by your team at the Centurion branch.

In August of last year, I purchased a pair of marked-down boots via the Truworths online store. As these are strictly seasonal winter wear, they were stored properly and remained unworn until the start of winter in June 2026. After exactly three uses, the heel of the left boot completely deflated. This is undeniably a latent manufacturing defect resulting from substandard workmanship.

My attempts to resolve this have been met with unacceptable apathy. I sent two separate emails regarding this issue, both of which were completely ignored. I was eventually forced to contact your customer service line. While I commend Aisha for her willingness to help, the subsequent conference call with Thabang at the Centurion branch was incredibly frustrating and entirely unproductive.

Thabang dismissively informed me that the "policy for default manufacturing has expired" and refused any assistance whatsoever. When I highlighted the sheer absurdity of this stance—asking him exactly who wears winter boots in the middle of summer to test for latent defects—he could not provide a logical answer. Because of this rigid and nonsensical application of policy, I am currently paying for a defective product that is entirely unwearable.

Let me be absolutely clear: I am fully aware of your standard 30-day return policy. However, applying a standard return window to a **latent manufacturing defect** is not only unreasonable, it is an evasion of your responsibility as a retailer. A 30-day policy does not absolve Truworths of its obligation to sell goods of acceptable, durable quality.

Any reputable retailer with basic quality control standards would immediately rectify a blatant manufacturing failure rather than penalizing a customer for the changing of the seasons. Consumers do not spend their hard-earned money at Truworths to be saddled with defective merchandise and expected to simply accept bad workmanship.

I do not accept Thabang’s resolution. I expect this matter to be reviewed by senior management immediately, and I demand a full refund or a direct replacement for these defective boots.

I expect a prompt and satisfactory response to this email within 48 hours. Should Truworths continue to fail to stand by the quality of its merchandise, I will not hesitate to escalate this matter to the relevant consumer protection authorities and share this experience across public consumer platforms.
