Credit limit

I opened a account with a R500 credit limit and within 2 months Truworths increased it to R800 and got a sms with a promise for a credit limit of R1500 I send copies of 3 months bank statements witch reflect my monthly income and with any notice they decreased my credit limit back to R500 after I paid my installments every month on time! Why did they in the first place open a account for me and secondly why did they increased my credit limit just to take it away again! They are in no position to do a affordability check when I did pay my installments on time every month and after numoures phone calls it seems that nobody can help!

Hello Irmamatthews,

Thank you for your post and allowing us the opportunity to respond.

We have reviewed your account and established that a temporary increase was made available to you during the months mentioned in your post. This allows for a customer to make a purchase over-and-above their credit facility available at the time. Truworths will authorize the sale provided that the account meets the qualifying criteria. This is printed on the point-of-sale docket and accepted by the customer when he/she signs the docket authorizing the purchase.

Further to this, we wish to verify that when an offer is extended to increase the credit limit on a customer's Truworths account, the increase is subject to an affordability assessment and the provision of proof of income documentation, which is a requirement of the National Credit Act (NCA).

We have established that this offer was regrettably unsuccessful as you did not meet the criteria for the credit limit increase at this time.

We trust that we were able to clarify your concerns in this regard. Should you have any other enquiries, please feel free to email us on *** and we will gladly assist.

Kind regards,

Lynn
