BROKEN PHONE

i purchased a phone from Truworths in September 2014. Phone heated up and died. Returned it to the store for repairs and was advised it would be booked in the following day. Upon following up, I discovered, the phone was still laying at the branch 2 days later and was advised they are still waiting for the MTN repair centre to collect the phone. Needless to say, after much frustration and phone calls, the phone was only collected from the store a week later?... I contacted the repair centre for the status of the phone and was told by the consultant, they will not repair it as the warranty does not cover for LIQUID DAMAGE??? How is this possible with a phone that lived in a pouch since date of purchase and the phone laying at the store for a week? I now have to fork out R330.00 for the release of my phone? END RESULT - I AM SITTING WITH A PHONE FULLY PAID, UNDER WARRANTY AND UNFIXED...

Hello marcelle30,

Thank you for your post and affording us the opportunity to provide you with an explanation.

After looking into your query, we confirm that your cell phone was submitted to MTN for an assessment, and that the damage to the phone was found to be as a result of liquid damage. The relevant Floor Manager confirmed that a lot of customers are not aware that liquid damage can be caused due to various things, not just water. This is explained to the customer, and is also stated in the contract that customers sign when purchasing the phone.

When this type of damage is confirmed at an MTN Repair Centre, then the warranty on the cell phone becomes invalid, and the customer is then liable for the payment requested to release the phone.

We regret that you are not pleased with the outcome to your query, but trust that we have adequately addressed this matter for you. Should you require assistance with any other matter of concern, contact us on *** or send an e-mail to: ***.

Best regards,
Charmaine
