Broken Perfume Bottle - No Credit Back

Today my mother in law (Mrs Bell) bought a Givency Gentleman only perfume as a gift from Truworths Pavillion. She proceeded to return the bottle to her car before continuing with her shopping. On return to her car she smelt a strong scent of the perfume and noticed that the packet it was in was wet. She returned immediately to the store and advised the sales lady that the bottle had obviously been damaged in the SEALED box and could they please investigate. The sales lady shook the box and advised that the glass bottle inside was broken (Obviously) she then said that the Givency Rep would need to be contacted as it is not truworths fault. Mrs Bell asked how long this would take as she had double parked to rush back into the store and was told that it depended on if the rep answered her phone or not (sarcastically) Mrs Bell said she would quickly rush to park her car again and return. When she got back the Manager was called who also shook the box to advise that the bottle was broken. Mrs Bell asked for some resolution and was told that they suggest a credit query and basically ensued that it was not their fault that the bottle was broken. Mrs Bell said she would like to then open the box as she was not getting a refund or a new bottle to see where the bottle had broken. The bottle is broken at the neck where the spritzer joins the base. Surely if it was mishandled it would have been shattered?? She is now left with no bottle of perfume as the store has kept it and is left with a debt of R1650 on her account. Not sure where this goes to from here but there needs to be some sort of resolution for a product that is not R50...

Reviewer Update

Good Morning all, after a week of waiting, I have received confirmation from truworths that Givenchy will not accept that the perfume bottle breaking could have been a manufacturing error and after speaking to the truworths area manager it was also decided that I, the consumer am responsible for this bottle breaking (still sealed in its packing) and that truworths will not be crediting my account. To say that I am angry would be an understatement and for obvious reasons I will be closing my account which I realize truworths don't really care about as I am only one of millions of truworth account cards holders. But I was a good customer to keep - I spent big & paid long before due date (so much for good customer service)!! Disappointed in the attitude from staff and for the fact that nothing could be resolved with this issue. I had not even left the mall before returning the goods. Is there no refund policy? I will be consulting the consumer protection act in this regard. Regards, Kathy Bell ********** 581
