Apparently paying your account is detrimental to your credit. And Don't pay it back in full!

I have had a Truworths account for almost 20 years. While experiencing difficulties for a period, I paid the account in full more than a year ago and was able to shop again. In May I bought a few items, and was not using the card again although I have faithfully paid every installment.

In the meantime, I was informed that I could get a credit increase. I decided to do so an was informed that it was declined. Keep in mind that I have paid almost R2000 back in the past two months, and suddenly can not buy on my account.

The only response I get that the application was declined. What is confusing is that two months ago, the limit was almost R2000 more than it is now.

If this is your response I will then easily close the account and pay it of in installments to the amount of my own fancy. Maybe R50? Don't know because you don't.

Thank you for your post and allowing us the opportunity to respond.
We have reviewed your account and would like to advise that an offer to increase the account limit on a customer’s Truworths account is subject to an affordability assessment and the provision of proof of income documentation, which is a requirement of the National Credit Act (NCA).
We have established that this offer was regrettably unsuccessful as you did not meet the criteria for the account limit increase which was made available to you at this time.
We regret that you are not happy about this, however trust that we were able to clarify your concerns in this regard. Should you have any other enquiries, please feel free to email us on *** and we will gladly assist.
Kind regards,
Truworths Online Team.
