A Truworths account has been opened in my name *****ulantly.

In 2016 an account has been opened at Truworths by someone that is not me. I have been contacted in regards to this by Truworths only in August 2017 for the first time. By then Truworths has already handed me over to VVM Debt Collectors. I have stated that I don't have a Truworths account and have never opened one before. I was then told that I can dispute the account at witch time they will start an investigation. I have requested all of the account information from Truworths and gave a declaration at Phalaborwa police station that I want to dispute the account. All of this information has been handed in at Truworths Phalaborwa branch and has been emailed to VVM debt collectors in August 2017. I have received an email from VVM debt collectors to state that they have received the information needed to start the dispute. But...I still receive emails, smses and phone calls from Truworths weekly to threaten me with being blacklisted. How is it possible for an account to be opened in my name without the correct ID, Proof of residence or Payslips? Who at Truworths authorised this account? I did request a copy of the ID that has been used to open the account but Truworths refused to show it to me! Does this mean there isn't one? Then how was the account opened? I phoned Truworths yesterday 24-10-2017 to enquire about the progress of my dispute, they stated that the dispute has not been logged on their system. Why? I have sent the paperwork in August and on 6-10-2017 I received a reply from VVM debt collectors that all the information has been received by them. Yesterday Truworths informed me that if I do not pay R300 immediately, I will be blacklisted. They stated that the money will be refunded to me after the completion of the investigation of my dispute. I have also requested the audio recordings with my conversation with them but am yet to receive it.

Thank you for your post; we appreciate the opportunity to respond.

At Truworths, we view issues of ***** and irregular credit activity in a very serious light. We therefore requested that you provide the necessary documentation so that we could conduct a thorough investigation.

We would like to assure you that our selection process for any new account is very thorough and we do have preventative measures in place. Occasionally, these blocking measures are not always successful; however, when we were alerted of suspicions of *****, immediate action was taken.

This matter was escalated to our ***** Department, but as all the required documentation was not received, the investigation could not be concluded and as such the account was unblocked, and arrears communication was generated.

We acknowledge your frustrations and apologise for the inconvenience that this matter may have caused. However, we are pleased to confirm that the outstanding documentation has since been received and this issue is being attended to as a matter of urgency. We furthermore confirm that you will be contacted once the investigation has been concluded.

Kind regards,

Truworths Online Team
