Uncontactable and Overcharging
I had flights booked to Istanbul with Ethiopian Airlines via Travelstart that were cancelled last year due to Covid. Original Istanbul Flight Costs per person: Description Total Flight with Ethiopian Airlines (Adult) R1 260.00 Taxes Ethiopian Airlines (Adult) R6 687.93 R7 947.93 pp These flights are allowed to be rescheduled before the end of 2021 to an alternate destination. Following Travelstart instruction to use their webform to amend the original booking, I requested a quote on flights to Zanzibar. The following is what I received as additional costs per person: Travelstart additional costs for Zanzibar Flights per person: Difference in Fare R1 240.00 Difference in taxes R3 632.82 Total: R4 872.82 pp (additional costs) So I took the original flight costs and added the additional quoted costs. The total flight cost per person is: Fare costs: R2 500.00 Taxes: R10 320.75 Total: R12 820.75 pp
I then decided to do a Travelstart quote on the exact same flights on their website: Travelstart Air Flight Costs from website: Adult fare: R3 620.00 Taxes and fees R4 114.50 Total R7 734.50 pp
Now these numbers do not add up at all. I am unable to engage any person at Travelstart on this, as there is no number one can call and have a telephonic discussion.
The 'additional costs' seem to be quite arbitrary and not based on fact. Travelstart's own current quote disproves the costs quoted to reschedule the flights.
I want to get this resolved but I cannot do this via a webform as it does not allow for conversation. This is NOT customer service!!!

Our amendments team quote according to the seat and fare availability on the requested dates the passenger has provided. The dates you provided was over Christmas which is the airlines peak season and one of the most expensive times to travel.
When emailing an amendment quote our fares team will need to recalculates the fare difference according to the availability and the fare restrictions regarding applicable change fees, where required. Should there be any difference in taxes this is also calculated into quote.
I regret you are not happy with the amendment quote emailed however we are governed by the airlines change policy.
As these funds go directly to the airline we are not permitted to wavier any airline policies.
If you are flexible with your dates of travel this could help in finding a cheaper fare.
We have received your online contact form and your booking is with our amendments team who will be in touch. Passengers departing within 48 hours they are currently assisting those customers. As your booking is for travel in December they will be in touch within 24 hours.
