Book with Travelstart at our peril (I did and lost over 1,000 rand)

Use travel start when searching for cheap flights but never be tempted to click the button to book the flight with them. I made that mistake and lived to regret it when I was not able to get through to their call centre to cancel the flight (high call volumes).

The problem is the business model - Booking is fine, but then you HAVE to use Travelstart for subsequent changes, not the actual airline you are using. It's like having an added layer of admin added between you and the flight operator. This at best means that changing and cancelling flights is more expensive and time consuming as in my case can mean that you end up not being able to cancel or change a flight and don't receive a payment back.

Hi Colin, thank you for your feedback and getting in touch with us. I do apologize that you were unable to get through to us. I have handed the booking to the relevant department for further investigation and we will send you a email during the course of today with regards to the outcome.

update on travel start. They did contact me after this post. They did say that my booking was not 2 hours before the departure time and therefore they could not do anything. They therefore are not returning my money. BUT they miss the key point.....

I HAD BEEN ON HOLD FOR 40 MINUTES to get through to them and therefore I missed the 2 hour windown by 6 MINUTES.

It's great they have told me that they are employing more staff and that the call volume is a problem.

Top companies do not charge their customers for their own internal problems. They credit their customers for putting up with their problems.
