Appalling service
I was turned away at the airport, about to board an international flight, which I booked via Travelstart. I was turned away because one of the connecting flights in my journey (consisting of 3 connecting flights), is a special flight requiring a transit visa. The problem is not the country, but the flight I was booked on so the embassy would have given me an ‘all clear’ if I contact them. I waited 6 days for Travelstart to revert to my numerous enquiries (WhatsApp, phone calls, online forms, emails) and now they are offering me a refund of less than R3000 on my R72000 ticket! Oh yes, and the offer is made via a ‘more ply’ email address.

Thank you for reaching out to us.
I am very sorry that you were not able to successfully board the flight on 26 March. Please note that we are an online agency, therefore we do not keep up with the travel documentation required as the regulations keep changing. We do advise passengers that they are required to ensure that they have the proper documentation before travel. Please see the link for our T&Cs which is present on every page https://www.travelstart.co.za/lp/terms-and-conditions which does advise the below:
Passports, Visas & Health
It is ENTIRELY THE CLIENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that all passports and visas are current, valid, obtained on time, have sufficient blank pages, will be valid for six months after return to their home country and that any vaccinations, inoculations, prophylactic (e.g. for malaria) and the like, where required, have been obtained. The Client is STRONGLY ADVISED to check the relevant requirements for their destination and any transit countries before travelling.
Before booking any flight it is important to check if a transit visa will be required. As this differs between countries and what passport you are holding it is always best to check with the embassy of the transiting country. For example if you are the holder of a South African passport and are travelling on British Airways to Madrid via London you may require a transit visa.
Travelstart will endeavour to assist the Client if requested, but such assistance will be at Travelstart’s discretion (since this service does not fall within the scope of the Services) and the Client acknowledges that in doing so, Travelstart IS NOT ASSUMING ANY OBLIGATION OR LIABILITY AND THE CLIENT INDEMNIFIES TRAVELSTART against any consequences of the Client’s failure to comply with any such requirements. It is the CLIENT’S DUTY to fami****ize him/herself with the inherent dangers of and mental and/or physical condition required for the proposed travel arrangements.
Please not e we also advise the following information on every page during the booking procedure By proceeding to book you agree and accept the Covid-19 Disclaimer and Terms and Conditions of the Travelstart and its travel partners.
You are welcomed to forward an email to feedback @ travelstart . com to address your concerns.
Kind Regards,
Melissa
