red tape
88 year old female admitted Wednesday 29th April fractured right hip to kimberley hospital. Orthopedic surgeon cannot give a date for surgery as hospital has one operating theatre.gran is 15 on the list they only do 6 to 8 per week. So she must lie her for unknown period of time. Totally immobilised. No change of bedding and prescription medication not administered unless queried . Doctor has motivated for transfer to mediclinic.transmed has not yet given authorisation as apparently a panel has to decide whether it's worth while sending an 88 year old to a private facility.patient last hospitalised in 1985 for brain tumour.for every day the patient is lying here she is at risk of bedsores pneumonia and other possible complications.the success rate of the op declines and recovery time is extended .please do not make my grandmother another statistic because of a process
The patient is a member on the Guardian benefit option with Major Medical cover within State facilities as the designated provider. Only in cases of emergency, or if the State cannot provide the required treatment, will Transmed consider treatment within a private facility.
Our case managers have been in contact with the treating doctor. He has confirmed that the patient is stabilised on a skin traction with pain medication and monitored. The treating doctor also indicated the operation will be performed latest Wednesday, 13 May 2015, but could also be as early as today, 8 May 2015, depending on available theatre time.
We also received confirmation that you have been informed of the progress.
