My daughter Jade van Wyk is a diabetic, for the past 12yrs. She has been in and out of hospital due to the sickness. <br> Last year her eyes started giving her problems, and we consulted the eye specialist. Dr. Genevieve Ephraim was the doctor treating Jade. After a few sessions with her, she discovered that an operation is needed. <br> Motivation for Superficial Keratectomy.<br> Authorisation was requested for this operation. The medical aid requested photos of jade eyes for them to see and make a decision based on that.<br> The above patient has bilateral severe keratoconus complication by bilateral hydrops cornea. She had also developed bilateral persistent, non-healing epithelial defects and is at risk for loss of both eyes should either one of her corneas melt. The envisioned surgery is aimed at clearing away dead epithelia cell debris thus established a clear path for new cells to move in from the periphery and close the defects. The request was declined without even considering or priorities, the importance for this operation to be done. All I want from the medical aid is to prioritise, and allow this operation to take place. <br>
