Water Pump needs Replacing?!

I am the owner of a 2008 Toyota Fortuner 4.0 V6 (Raised Body) which I acquired from the dealer in Sept 2012. The vehicle then had approx 96,000kms on the clock. It is common knowledge that Toyota vehicles comes with a hefty price tag due to its reliability and durability.

I have just been informed, during what was supposed to be a a routine service, that there is a significant fault on the vehicle. Praise for the service consultant (Bianca Koning) and the techie (Riaan) for her friendly service and patience, but sadly it does not make up for the fact that I have been informed that the water pump is defective. Though I can still drive, the inevitable is looming. At a cost of R6,000!!! This was the quoted price for the part...I shudder to know what the cost will be with labour and all the ancillary parts!!!

I find it totally unacceptable that a vehicle which hardly ever sees a gravel road or any form of tough terrain, forget the fact that this vehicle is built and designed for the toughest of terrains and environments, now requires a water pump on mere 158,000kms!!! My VW's and Opel's have done more mileage without the water pump giving in!!!!

This is a Toyota after all!!!! That comes at a price premium for reliability!!!
