Toyota South Africa Material Non-Disclosure
I recently purchased a Toyota Corolla 1.8 Exclusive CVT, after i had taken delivery of the vehicle I noticed that the voice recognition/voice command system was not working along with the "MirrorLink" functionality which also did not work. I have been through an arduous process with Toyota to have these functions repaired only to be informed that those 2 functions are "Not available in the South African model". I was never informed that those functions would not be operational until after I had taken delivery on the vehicle and completed the purchase process, not to mention the vehicle is manufactured in South Africa. I find this to be very upsetting. By Toyota not telling me about the defect in functionality, it influenced my buying power and purchase decisions resulting in me purchasing the vehicle without knowledge of the material defects and this in turn constitutes a material non-disclosure affecting my rights as a purchaser as well as a breach of the Consumer Protection Act. Toyota's response to my issue was to say that they will do nothing to repair the vehicle nor will Toyota pay any compensation for these defects regardless of the fact that had i known of the issues i would have purchased another vehicle. Beware when buying a vehicle to check that all of the functions are working beforehand.
