Toyota Lack Of Knowledge

Hello Peter ,

I recently purchased a Brand New, Toyota 2017 model. The Current KM is roughly 1****M. My car started to smoke a lot as if the clutch was burning. I then called Toyota and my car was towed into a Toyota Soweto dealer. The services manager Pieter sent me a bill of R11.000 saying that I need a new clutch. I found this absolute bizarre as my car only had 1900 km on it and I asked him to prove that my clutch was gone by my driving style. After much debate he then tells me that he needs to drop the gearbox down to show me that the fly wheel is burnt and hence this is due to bad driving style. I was absolutely furious as HOW do I get a bill for a clutch when the gearbox was not even opened to investigate properly????? I then called my dealership that I bought the car from and asked them for assistance. Pleasantly the dealership towed my car to them free of charge , opened the gearbox and found a folk or something to that magnitude to be lose. They merely put the folk on the clutch back into position and there we go the car being 100% with NO bill as this fell under warranty / defect. When the car was built. Dear Toyota I have no doubt that you make awesome cars but I am very stunned that you employ a service manager that clearly does not diagnose the problem well enough before giving your customers a bill. Infact he quoted and claimed to say that he saw cars doing 80 KM where the clutch was burnt out. Really ??? Please can I have someone take a look at this dealer and clearly he isn’t certified enough. I cannot understand for a company your size you have this caliber of people working for your dealership.
