Reviewer Update
I am writing this review out of sheer frustration and deep disappointment with the shocking lack of service, accountability, and professionalism I have experienced from Toyota since the day I purchased my Toyota Vitz 1.0 from Toyota Westville in Durban. From the very next day after taking delivery of the vehicle, a loud and disturbing noise was present whenever I app**** the brakes. I immediately contacted the salesperson, Clint, who claimed to have spoken to the service manager. I was told—without any inspection—that it was “likely dust” and that I should continue driving the car until 1,000 km before it could be looked at. This was my first red flag, but I comp**** in good faith. At 1,000 km, the vehicle was brought in, and once again I was told—without proper investigation—that the issue was “dust” and would resolve itself. This was a grossly negligent assumption. The noise persisted, and I reported it multiple times to Clint, who continuously told me the issue had been “escalated” to Toyota South Africa and that I should wait for feedback. I waited. And waited. Nothing. When the first service finally arrived, I reiterated the complaint in detail to the service manager. Only then was the issue properly investigated—and surprise: the brake discs were found to be scored and visibly damaged, confirming this was not dust or wear and tear, but a problem that had clearly been present from day one. I was then told I would need to pay to have the discs replaced. This is an outrageous suggestion considering I raised this issue immediately after purchase and followed every instruction given to me by Toyota staff. To make matters worse, I was also forced to argue the basic mechanical fact that both discs and brake pads should be replaced together. Again, the service manager promised to escalate to Ethekwini Toyota Westville. And again, I heard absolutely nothing back. No follow-up. No resolution. No accountability. At the second service, I was once again told I would need to pay out of pocket for the discs and pads. At this point, Toyota’s excuses about “wear and tear” are not only baseless but insulting. This vehicle has been used for its intended, normal purpose—transport to work and to safely get my children to school. Suggesting that such use should lead to this kind of failure is absurd. I did not purchase this vehicle to park it in a garage or for it to become a monthly burden of frustration.
Toyota’s complete failure to take ownership, resolve a clearly reported defect, or even provide the courtesy of a follow-up is unacceptable. It’s clear that my complaint was not taken seriously, and I am now left to deal with the consequences of Toyota’s inaction and mismanagement. I am writing this review so that others be weary of purchasing a toyota what was once a trust brand is now up to ****, excuse my language. all they want is the sale but no after sales services at all i complained from the second day of purchasing the vehicle and to date no one took ownership to resolve it i just got sent from one to the other shifting the blame on to me. if they sorted it out in the furst instance i would noit be complaining here.
