McCarthy Toyota Pietermaritzburg Think THRICE before letting them test drive your car.

On 21 October 2016, more than a year ago, I was in a traffic jam on the freeway under Ohrtmann Rd flyover bridge. I was in the fast lane and ALL cars in ALL lanes were stationary. A gold coloured Toyota Run-X being test driven by a Toyota Driver approached at speed in the Slow Lane, drove straight into a stationary truck (lorry) at such speed that he bounced off the truck, collided with me and bounced back into the truck. I am still suffering from the damages caused to my lower back, and I have been battling to get the compensation to repair my car from them for more than a YEAR (R39000.00). On the day of the accident after being released from the hospital, I went to their service manager and asked what they intended to do about the accident. They would not discuss the incident, saying "you must contact our insurer". We went about getting quotes and as soon as the word Toyota was mentioned we were turned away like dogs. We eventually got a quote from Hugos in Victoria street. We were contacted by some official and instructed to go to Peter Baxter panel beaters- who had chased us away in the first place, so we refused, insisting that Hugos would be our choice of panel beater. After a court warrant of attachment for this sum plus costs and interest their attorneys say they are only prepared to pay R19000.00, with interest and no costs! Less than half of our cost! AND IT TURNS OUT THE DRIVER HAD NO LICENCE ON HIM, HE PRODUCED THE TEMPORARY LICENCE DATED 4 DAYS AFTER THE ACCIDENT! TOYOTA SUCKS AND WE HAVE STATEMENTS (INCLUDING THE DRIVER'S ADMISSION OF RESPONSIBILTY AND PHOTOS TO PROVEIT. This has brought our company to its knees as our total losses in earnings are R 150 000 plus to date. THE OWNER OF THE RUN-X TOLD US HE WAS INITIALLY TOLD THERE IS A DISCLAIMER ON THE WALL OF THE SERVICE CENTRE WAIVING LIABILITY OF DAMAGE BY THE STAFF TO CUSTOMER VEHICLES.
