Built tough my ass!!!
OK, so I buy a new 2.8 GD Double Cab 4x4 Hilux in 2016. Everything is fine until a trip to Mozambique around Pafuri. We get stuck in some mud (maybe 500mm deep - I have photos). We finally get out and proceed to the ocean. Drive to the house (30km on beach not going near the water) and spend a week there. When I come back the brakes don't work. I service the car and I am told the brakes are rusted and not covered by warranty. I have brakes fixed and pay bill. Want to go to Mozambique again but trailer lights don't work. Go to Toyota and I am told the trailer harness is not factory and needs replacement (no warranty coverage). I pay for the replacement. While the vehicle is at Toyota the notice a leak in the rear diff seal. Service agent tells me there is sand in the seal and thus the leak. Needs replacement but because I drove on a dirt road the warranty does not cover it. I pay again but miss vacation because the dealership does not have a seal in stock. Have vehicle serviced at 30 000km. Go on vacation. Dry roads, no problems. Get to beach house, put vehicle in low range and it will not disengage again. Now stuck in low range. Phone Toyota and I am told it is a known problem but nothing I can do about it. Ask about a recovery, Toyota blatantly tells me that it is my problem and that I should phone them once I am back in South Africa again. I arrange breakdown to recover vehicle (R30 000). Left vehicle with Toyota. Now brakes are not working and lights have stopped working. They phone me and tell me they will replace the transfer case actuator (since it has no water in) but will not cover electrical harnas under warranty because of water damage. Vehicle was never in water after last service! They will also replace the brakes at my cost, something that was done just before I left (at my cost may I say). Toyota claims that the warranty does not cover anything that gets wet (even though they advertise a wading depth of 800mm on their vehicles) or anything that fails due to driving off surfaced roads (even though their Hilux ad has the vehicle charging over open plains and mountains with no roads). This is false advertising in the least and terrible, terrible customer service. I had a Ford Ranger that broke down in Mozambique and Ford sent a breakdown with a new vehicle for me and brought the broken down one back. That is service! I will be ordering my Ranger this afternoon. Toyota will not be seeing me again! This was at Werda Toyota in Louis Trichardt.
