Toyota Financial Services - Unfair practise

We have always had such a great experience purchasing our vehicles from Toyota and their after sales assistance was just as reliable, sadly this is no longer the case for us. Recently our Toyota Starlet's finance term had come to an end and we were logically expecting to be allowed to refinance the remaining balloon amount. After months of correspondence, we have been informed to return the vehicle or pay the entire settlement in 1 lump sum. How can this be fair to the consumer, especially in this economic climate? We requested to enter into an agreed monthly installment plan with Toyota financing, but Toyota did not find this option agreeable, due to the fact that my husband is currently working overseas and his name is on the deed. My 79 year old Mother In Law, who is the beneficiary of the vehicle, will now have no means of transport as a result. The correspondence backwards and forwards, has taken almost 3 months, with no fair solution other than a recent final demand.
