DISGUSTING!

Where do I begin?

The deal went south from the star.

In June 2016, we approached Top Carpets Bloenfontein. We enquired about the Belgotex range in carpets, underfelt and the LVT floor system.

We chose the orange underfelt for the carpets, Belgotex Guess carpets and Zebra Oak LVT floor. We paidin FULL in the same month. As we were still building at the time, we had only installed in Febuary 2017.

At the first and only encounter we were told the following

* Install LVT floor before the carpenters do the kitchen cupboards.

[LVT is a floating system where there is constantley movement. You cannot, I repeat, CANNOT build any permanent fixtures on top of the floor]

* Install carpets before you install cupboards. Just wait for the painters and ceiling people to finish up because you cannot get the dust from the ceiling out of the carpet or the paint.

What should have been discussed was;

* Expantion joints

*Finishings on said expansion joints

*Care for the floor

[Was not discussed, we did not know the products, they are supposed to]

Day of installation:

*Installed wrong underfelt under carpets. When we queried we were greeted with unproffesionalism and rudeness from the installer.

*LVT flooring was NOT acclimitized to the site fro 48 hours.

After LVT floor had been installed; only then did they mention expantion joints.

*Cutting around door frames was horrible, untidy and extremely poor quality of work.

*No care instructions were given, for e.g. the LVT floor does not work well under direct sunlight. [like I said, we didn't know the product, so they should have told us what the care for such a floor entails.

After 1 month, the plnks pull away from each othe, leaving 5mm> gaps in between planks. Bubbles appear and rip the planks away from one another.

After 4 month I contactTop Carpets Bloemfontein and talk to a Charl-Marie Venter who was not helpful at all. I explained what was happening and they sent the rude installer, Gert, out to come an evaluate. He said he'll say it's installation fault but it's actually a lack of expansion joints and the amount of sun what the floor was getting.

He said the kitchen cupbords should'nt have been built on top of the floor which isn't giving it room for movement.He suggested we lift the floor up and stick it down with glue so it doesnt move.

I asked for a warrantee booklet or a "do's and dont's" with LVT floor and he said he'll get one for me.

As eh left I contacted Belgotex's head office to hear if waht he is saying is correct (lack of expansion joins, sun etc.). I latetr find out from Belgotex that the way in which they installed it is NOT ACCORDING to SANS10070 which guarantee's your floors 15 year warrantee.

This is just some of the points that Belgotex mentions:

*They should have checked moisture content of floor

*Planks should have been acclimitized to site 48 hours in advanced

*Planks are not allowed any glue

*Expansion joints should be present to help with movement

*Permanent fixtures should be built before installation

*LVT does not work well with sun

So I contacted Top Carpets and Floors Bloemfontein and write them a lengthy email with pictures describing the content. A week goes past and NO RESPONSE. I send an email asking if they have received the email to which I get- NO RESPONSE. I phone and ask to talk to Charl-Marie and ask her about the emails and when I can expect a response. The level of tact and finess to which she responded was below horrid.

I decided to go in that very same day and go see the boss, Clarens Venter. He was aware of the situation but did not put pressure on his staff to A) get back to me B) sort the problem ou C)actually get in communication with me personally.

As we sit down to discuss the matter I quickly give him the facts and what Belgotex said. I show him the pictures and his response was that it is unacceptable and he'll sort it out quickly as ppossible. He said he will give a written letter from Top Carpets and from Belgotex ensuring us that our warrantee was still in place even if the floor was not installed according to SANS 10070.

We had to organize a carpenter to remove kickplates from kitchen cupboards so that they can cut away the floor from under the cupboards from the floor visible. They ripped our floor up, replaced broken planks and cut away the kitchen cupboards from the floor. They installed 2 expansion joints. Fixed the untidy cuttings around the door frames and installed new strips on carpets that lead to the floor. Clarens was here when they started to pull up to make sure they are doing it correctly and said he would make a trun the next day when they are finished to make sure level of quality is up to standard; he did not pitch or even phone afterwards to ask if I'm happy with the workmanship this time around.

This is how I feel about the situation;

*It should have been installed properly from the start

*Expansion joints should have been mentioned back in 2016

*The care fro the floor should have been explained and a booklet of how to care for the floor or even just a pamphlet.

*The fact that we lost probably over R5000-00 in planks that are placed under kitchen cupboards.

*We had to remove and replace kitchen cupboards kickplates.

*The quality of work should have been up to standard.

If I hadn't phoned Belgotex and had just re**** on them to fix the situation; who knows what would have happened and what the end result would have been like.

I feel Belgotex should remove their products from this branch as they do not know, or do not respect the installation guidlines that has been given by Belgotex.

P.S. I'm still waiting for our two letters which ensures us our warrantee for the floor.

Utterly dissapointed in their level of workmanship and proffesionalism.

Very very dissapointed.
