Thorp Motor Group
Based on recent customer reviews, Thorp Motor Group is facing significant criticism across its Chery, Haval, GWM, Suzuki and Jaecoo dealerships in the Cape Town area. Customers consistently mention poor after-sales service, unanswered calls and emails, and unfulfilled promises from service advisors and managers. A recurring theme is frustration with delayed warranty claims, slow parts availability, and registration paperwork dragging on for weeks. Several reviewers raise serious safety concerns, citing airbag faults and alignment issues left unresolved. Communication breakdowns and a perceived lack of accountability dominate the feedback landscape.

I would like to inform you about the unfortunate and absolute pathetic service I have received at Thorp Table Bay in the last few weeks. I checked in my GWM P-Series bakkie on the 15th of June 2026. When I dropped it off I informed them that I heard a strange squeaking sound coming from the engine that I want looked at and then I also mentioned as I booked it in that I saw some oil spots under that car the morning so they must also look at that. They got back to me and said that I was the oil cooler that needed to be replaced and stated that the warranty would cover it. A week later I asked for an update on the progress and a possible timeline on the work and when I can expect it to be finished. I also informed them that I use the car for work and every day that the car is standing in the workshop it's costing me money. The reply I got was that they were still stipping the car and waiting on a warranty claim and that they will then order the parts and it is not possible to give me a timeline as they don't know where the parts are coming from and how long it will take to reach the workshop. I stated again that I use the car for work and that I really require a timeline as I need to make arrangements. I think that is a fair request yet no timeline was given to me. On the 25th of June I asked for another update on the bakkie. I got a message back sayiing that the claim is still pending and the warranty clerk is waiting for approval. This is 10 DAYS in and no parts have been ordered yet as they are still waiting for approval. The 29th of June I asked for any updates and received a message back that they are waiting on parts. Once again I asked for a time frame to which I got the reply "I am scared to give you a timeframe because the parts doesn't arrive on time these days". I stated again that I really need the Bakkie for work and yet no further information could be given to me. This is now 14 Days after I dropped off the car. On the 2nd of July I received a message saying they have bad news for me the oil cooler has arrived but only one of the seals that they need to fit it has arrived with it and the other one is on backorder. Once again no timeline or further information could be given to me. That makes it 17 DAYS the car has been at the workshop and still we are nowhere nearer to the car being fixed than the first day I dropped it off. The 7th of July I enquired again about any further updates to which I got the reply that they are still waiting for the seal. I said that we are now entering the 4th week of this process and that I really need to start getting answers as it can't take 4 weeks for a rather simple fix. The reply I got is that the "job is not taking long we are only waiting for part". I did not think that was the best reply and I left it there. The 13th of July I asked for another update and I started to state that I am getting rather frustrated by how long this process is taking. I stated that we are entering the 5th week of this ordeal and that I am starting to lose a lot of money due to having to cancel jobs. Once again I got the same answer. The part is on backorder. That is 23 DAYS in if you are still keeping count. 15th of July I got a message saying they have more bad news. The seal that has arrived is the wrong one. It is the same one they have. This obviously did not go down well with me as we are basically 5 weeks in and nowhere nearer to getting my car fixed. I simply asked them what the plan was as last time it almost took 2 weeks for a part to arrive. I got a reply back saying that they will follow up with GWM and still no answers. We are now at the 30 DAYS mark. 16th of July I had enough. I went into the dealership and asked for the part numbers of the parts they are waiting for. I find it ridiculous that it takes at least 2 weeks every time they need to order a part. I Literally drove to the 2 nearest GWM garages in the area (that is not Thorpe workshops) and asked them if they had the seals. THe first one said no but he can get it for me in 4, possibly 3 days and the other one had some in stock in their parts department. So I bought it myself and took it back to Thorpe Table Bay and handed them it saying I don't even care that I had to pay for this myself, just fix my car. Friday the 17th I asked if the work will be finished to which I got the reply it will only be done on Monday the 20th of July. Understanding that work takes time I said that is fine I will pick it up on Monday morning. 21st of July I drive up the west coast road to a job and I hear the car is making the same noise that I TOOK IT IN FOR. I phoned them and said I will bring back the car the next day as they did not do the job correctly. 22nd of July I took the car back. I asked for somebody to come with me to the car to show them noise and a mechanic joined me and as he heard it he immediately said that is the exhaust manifold gasket. The car was there for more than 30 Days and they could not pick up that the exhaust manifold gasket blew. Just to remind you this was the original issue I brought the car in for!!!!! So yet again my car was checked in at Thorp Table Bay. I was away for a while and on the 28th of July I asked for an update stating that I need the car by next Friday (7th of August) as I have already booked a trip a year in advance and if I don't have my car I will lose an enormous amount of money. I said that I am done with the excuses of waiting for approval and waiting for parts as this was their mistake and I am being punished for that. I need my car and don't care what they have to do to fix it. To this I got no reply. Today the 29th of July (44 Days since dropping off the car the first time) I made my way to Thorpe Table Bay to get some updates and answers as I got no reply to messages. I was told that they are redoing the diagnostics test again and that they have to send it back to the warranty. This means no parts have been ordered, no progress has been made and my car still is no nearer to being fixed since the first day I left it there 44 Days ago. 11 August and still nowhere nearer to my car being fixed. Again not all the parts arrived that was needed to do the job. Again we are waiting for parts. Again it just excuse after excuse after excuse. This is now 55+ Days my car has been in their worksop and I still don't even know when this will be done. Honestly this place is a joke. The customer service is a joke the feedback from the service consultant is a joke. Every time I go to the workshop looking for answers or feedback she just tells me some lame excuse. I will never recommend this workshop to anybody. The lack of service, the lack of urgency and the general customer service is shcoking. Just remember that I have allready tried to sort this out internally with Thorp and that just lead to more empty promises and I just got no feedback from that in a space of twee weeks. Terrible service!!!

I am extremely disappointed with the service I received from Thorp Table Bay. I took my Chery Tiggo 4 Pro to the dealership because of a persistent, unusual screeching noise coming from the vehicle while driving, which I consider a potential safety concern. Instead of properly investigating the source of the noise, the report simply states: “Removed loose items and put it in the box in the boot, re-tested vehicle and no noise noted.” My concern was not about loose items in the boot; it was about a mechanical noise coming from the vehicle. No proper mechanical investigation appears to have been done, yet the vehicle was returned to me as though the matter had been resolved. I find this extremely concerning because when I report a potentially safety-related fault, I expect a Chery dealership to take it seriously and properly inspect the vehicle rather than simply test-drive it and conclude that there is no noise. I do not feel that my safety is treated with the seriousness by Thorp Table Bay/Chery to investigate this matter . I will take this up with Ombudsman if you are not taking this seriously.

I am beyond frustrated with the appalling service and lack of accountability at Thorp Chery Table View. Since February 2026, I have been dealing with a critical safety issue regarding my vehicle’s airbags. For over two months, I have been trapped in a cycle of empty promises and "ghosting." My service representative, Nadia, has repeatedly promised updates but has never once followed through. I have been forced to waste my professional and personal time constantly chasing her via phone or physically driving to the dealership to demand answers because my messages are ignored. I met with Ivan (Service Manager) and Nadia over a week ago (April 16th) after my car returned from the panel beaters. I was told to be "patient" while they compiled a report for Chery SA. Since then? Total silence. To make matters worse, Thorp’s own "customer care" and "feedback" emails bounce back as undeliverable. It is unacceptable that a customer must manage their own service experience for a safety-related warranty claim. If you value your time and your safety, take your business elsewhere. I am still waiting for a basic status update that should have been provided days ago.

I purchased and paid in full a new Chery Tiggo from Thorp Table Bay Mall on 8 December 2025. I am still awaiting registration nearly seven weeks later. Unfortunately the powers that be in Thorp's Head Office don't want to "hear no evil or see no evil" and are not contactable. Three reminders to the dealership elicit unfulfilled promises. What a way to run a business! Buyers beware.

I'm still fuming about the terrible service I got at Thorpe Motors Workshop Plumstead! 🤯 I don't even feel like writing my story. What was supposed to be a routine replacement of a water pump, turned into another nightmare. I say another because this is my second experience with them. I thought after the first time when I had to wait for three weeks, they had "reformed", gave them another chance. It was the worst decision. After two weeks my Haval is still not repaired with the excuse that they received the wrong part from Johannesburg. The total dishonesty is what bugged me most. All I can say at this moment is, Cape Town, pls stay away from this company. I promise you you are going to regret it. They are an ***********, ********* group of people. Don't say you were not warned. Service was slow, communication was zilch, and the attitude? Forget about it 😒. Would NOT recommend. 1/5 stars wouldn't even give 'em that ⭐️. Has anyone else had a similar experience? 😤
