We visited The Tasting Room Cedar at Broadacres Shopping Centre for the Saturday bubbly brunch, which costs R320 per person and includes a three-course meal and a bubbly tasting. The venue itself is beautiful, with a lovely atmosphere. It was incredibly busy, understandably so given the ongoing R35 breakfast special. Our waitress was also genuinely friendly and attentive, which was a definite positive. The bubbly tasting was lovely. We tasted the Steenberg bubbly collection, which was explained well and you get to choose a full glass of your favourite bubbly to enjoy as part of the experience. That part was enjoyable. Unfortunately, the food and overall brunch experience were a huge let-down. When you are spending over R700 for two people, you expect more than just food being placed on the table. The kitchen staff brought each course out, placed it down and walked away without explaining what we were being served. This is particularly concerning from an allergy and dietary perspective, as there was no clear explanation of the ingredients or what each course consisted of. The "three-course meal" was also extremely disappointing. The starter was granola and plain yoghurt. The main was toast topped with bacon and a white sauce. Dessert was, once again, plain yoghurt with apple crumble. The dessert felt like a repeat of the starter and we didn't even eat it. Most disappointing of all, my niece and I left hungry. For the price, this simply did not feel like a three-course brunch experience and certainly didn't feel like good value for money. Ironically, the food we saw being served to other tables from the regular menu looked fantastic. Based on what we saw, I would recommend booking a table, ordering something from the main menu and enjoying a bottle of bubbly instead. The bubbly prices are actually very reasonable and the tasting experiences — whether wine, brandy, gin, bubbly or tequila — are a great option if you want to add something extra to your visit. The venue has a lot going for it and our waitress was lovely, but the Saturday bubbly brunch did not deliver the experience we expected for the price. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I would not recommend the brunch.

Dear Management, I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding my treatment at The Tasting Room and to request a written explanation from management. On my previous visit, I attended The Tasting Room alone. During my visit, I briefly joined a table where three people whom I know were seated. I ordered my own drinks and later moved away from the table to spend some time elsewhere in the venue. When I was ready to leave, I requested my personal bill from the waitress. I settled the bill in full and additionally paid a tip to the waitress. I therefore left the premises believing that my account with The Tasting Room had been fully settled. After I had left the premises and was at my vehicle, I was approached/followed by persons associated with the establishment and informed that the other individuals at the table allegedly owed approximately R1,000. I made it clear that I had settled my own account and that I could not accept responsibility for an amount allegedly incurred by other customers. I had not agreed to act as guarantor or assume responsibility for their account, nor had I been informed that I was being held responsible for their purchases. Today, I returned to The Tasting Room as a customer intending to have a drink. I was informed that I could not be served because the previous matter had not been resolved and that I was required to leave the premises. I specifically asked the manager to clarify whether there was any outstanding amount on my own account. Rather than identifying any outstanding amount attributable to me, I was told that whether I had paid my own bill was “irrelevant” and that I nevertheless had to leave. I immediately comp**** with the instruction and left the premises. I find this extremely concerning. I am not disputing The Tasting Room’s right to pursue payment from customers who genuinely owe the establishment money. My concern is that I appear to have been personally associated with another customer’s alleged debt despite having settled my own account in full. I therefore request that management provide me with a written response addressing the following: What specific amount, if any, does The Tasting Room allege that I personally owe? What is the basis for holding me responsible for an amount allegedly incurred by the other customers at the table? Did I, at any point, agree to be responsible for the other customers’ account or guarantee their payment? If so, please provide the basis or record of that agreement. On what basis was I refused service today when my own account had been settled in full? Who made the decision to refuse me service and instruct me to leave the premises? Is this an established policy of The Tasting Room, and if so, I request that you provide the relevant policy or terms upon which this decision was based. Why was I followed to my vehicle on my previous visit regarding an amount allegedly owed by other customers, rather than the establishment pursuing the individuals who incurred the alleged debt? I also ask that management preserve any relevant CCTV footage, transaction records, point-of-sale records and staff records relating to both incidents, particularly the circumstances surrounding my departure from the premises on my previous visit and my visit today. For the avoidance of doubt, I do not accept liability for any amount incurred by another customer merely because I knew or briefly joined those individuals. My own account was settled in full. I believe that customers should be treated fairly and consistently, and that if an establishment alleges that a particular customer owes money, there should be a clear factual and contractual basis for that allegation. I would therefore appreciate a substantive written response rather than a general explanation that the matter is “irrelevant”. In particular, I would like to understand the factual and contractual basis upon which I was refused service and instructed to leave. I reserve my rights in relation to this matter and would prefer to resolve it directly and professionally with management.

Very disappointing - a table of 8 and not one correct. Medium rare steaks delivered well done, twice, small calamari portion, more like a starter, chicken burger cold, Service was OK but we had to complain to the manager. We found out later that the chef had failed to turn up another day and had been fired. Clearly there was no chef or manager in the kitchen. A pity, a lovely venue, let down badly by poor management

I had an absolutely terrible experience at The Cedar Room. The service was shocking from start to finish. We waited an unreasonable amount of time just to be attended to, and the time it took for the food to arrive was completely unacceptable. The delays were excessive, and there was no proper communication or apology for the wait. By the time the food finally arrived, the experience was already ruined. Poor service and extremely slow turnaround times are not what you expect when dining out. Very disappointing overall. I would not recommend this place based on the service and waiting time alone.

Terrible experience, not worth the time and money. Please do not go, it was my friends birthday and we were treated like absolute *******. The service was awful we waited 2 hours for food, the experience made the day less than special. I think the wait staff needs training on customer service and care because what we got? 0/10

Complaint This is the worst ****** booking I’ve ever experienced in my life, it is disgusting. The customer service is nonexistent and the management system is a joke. I mad a reservation when I called to confirm it, I was told it was cancelled which the manager Melanie had assured me was resolved and my booking was available as per my booking. This was then followed by a link requesting payment, which I made and today when I called to make sure that everything was ready and payment was received I was met with a stupid story that doesn’t make sense. So if the manager is not in, the whole establishment is unable to function? Alex told me there is nothing that can be done to fix whatever the issue is because Melanie or Chantay are not in today. I’m furious at the lack of accountability that your business is operating on especially since I made the reservation for MY BIRTHDAY. I want my money back and I don’t have seven days and I’ll never bother myself to reserve anything with you in future and I will spread the word on socials as well. No one deserves to go through such on their birthday.
