Worse Experience @ Dikhololo Resort

We booked a weekend (28th August 2020) at Dikhololo Resort for my daughters birthday

As you can imagine we were very excited to get to go away after the lock down and then also to be able to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Firstly when we arrived at our unit L15 we were very shocked to see how dirty the unit was, especially as we were thinking everything will be spotless and sanitized after being closed for such a long time during the Covid-19 lock down.

The unit was definitely not cleaned or sanitized. There were food on the wall above the single beds which is next to the kitchen, I had to wash part of the wall, as we felt very uncomfortable sleeping in such a dirty place. When I moved up to the top bedroom, once again there were food marks on the walls and there was what looked like a patch of wet carpet, which we later discovered was actually not wet something was messed there which left this round wet looking mark. Saturday morning we took out the pan to make breakfast, once again there were food particles stuck to the pan and the exact same thing with the oven pan. The state of the place made us feel dirty and uncomfortable the whole weekend. Thankfully we brought our own bedding otherwise I would have refused to stay in that unit for the weekend. To make matters even worse, the place was so over crowded (I am sure there was restriction of how many people were allowed at these types of resorts during Lockdown Level 2) the kids had to make bookings on all activities and often could not do any activities and had to return to the unit as the activities were mostly fully booked. I understand that due to the level 2 restrictions only a certain amount of people were allowed in the hot swimming pool at a time, but then again why was it so overbooked (crowded) that most guests could not enjoy activities such as the indoor hot water swimming pool, also it was cloudy most of the weekend so the warm pool was the best activity during such weather. We paid accommodation as per normal (no discount or special rate due to the fact that most activities would nt be available to everyone) and could not enjoy all that Dikhololo has to offer, which was especially bad for us, as it was my daughters birthday weekend and we wanted her and her friends to have a good time. Saturday afternoon we eventually called reception to complain and we were told that we could come and get a voucher for 6 for the hot water swimming pool (We were actually 12 people - 6 in 2 units so some guests in our unit and some friends in the other unit had to sit and wait and do nothing while the other 6 got to go to the swimming pool). We went to reception and got the ticket so quickly, as though the lady wanted us out of there quickly, as to not make a scene, nothing was done to try and assist us with the cleaning of the unit. I don’t believe the lady actually properly listened to our complaint. The weekend turned out to be one day were the kids could actually go out and do something. Friday’s booking in time was only at 3pm, we didn’t get in until after 4pm due to the long que that was outside. Kids walked around a bit and quickly discovered that, that was all they could do, the weather wasn’t great so swimming in the cold swimming pool was not an option and all other activities was not available. So much for all the excitement Saturday was when they had to be up very early to try and make bookings for the different activities, they managed to get some bookings except for the warm indoor swimming pool, as explained above we managed to get a ticket after we complained and they went swimming around 4pm. Sunday we got up, packed and left. So in reality, we could have been day visitors on Saturday only, as the accommodation was horrible and the kids couldn’t do anything on Friday and Sunday. Only the shop had hand sanitizer and staff with masks.

No masks were used by visitors in the resort
