Tevo and Makro unfair business practices
Hello Peter,
Please assist.
In 2017 December I bought a Bennett Read Dry and Wet vacuum cleaner 10 from Makro, Strubbensvalley. My intention was to use it on my car that was undergoing a rebuilding process (Code 3), after I incurred a TBI injury in 2015. But since I couldn't get the car back on the road (till now), I started to dust off my home tiles, both in the kitchen and living room. Using it for not more than 10-12 minutes for a total usage of four times.
The second time was when this vacuum started smell of burning. I first suspected that it was probably because of the new motor. One the fourth occasion of such limited usage, the vacuum stopped working. So, around October 2018 I took it back to the retailer, Crown mines, Johannesburg, since its closest to Soweto - where I live. I was first told that the unit was out of warranty and I would need to pay. I went back home. In January 2019, I went back to query the item's 2 year warranty on its accompanying product's Ts & Cs reading material.
Makro - Crown mines took the product but called me to say that they was a charge of R686.00 appended to the service. I rejected it and took the vacuum back home. I went back again around May. Eventually, I went back (August) to check and, indeed! In June, without any communication from the manufacturer (and proof), the vacuum had been sent back unfixed. Tevo (manufacturer) said they would not fix the machine without me paying the sum quoted above.
Here are some of the relevant details as drafted on the manufacture's notes that pertain to this matter: Repair/Service job: J*** (out of warranty form) Retail Repair Number: *** Proof of purchase: 19/12/2017 Date of handover to Logistics: 17/06/2019 Date of handover to Retailer: 13/08/2019
