Shox Airwaves radio - the worst Christmas present I have ever bought my mom

I bought a Shox Airwave Radio from Makro Cape Gate on 24 December 2022 as a Christmas present for my elderly mom, who likes to listen to the radio. I bought it mainly because of the continuous loadshedding because the radio is rechargeable. At first, it worked perfectly. Then, suddenly one day in May, the radio stopped receiving a signal. So, I took it back to Makro on 17 May 2023, and they sent it in for repairs. On 20 May at 14:13, I received a phone call from a very friendly gentleman from Tevo, who informed me that after speaking to his manager, they had decided to replace my mother's device. On 31 May, I received an SMS that I could collect it from Makro. Big was my surprise that it was the old device and not a new one as promised. The people at Makro could not explain it either.

During June and the beginning of July, we experienced very little loadshedding during the day, and we were away to visit family for the first week of July, so the radio was not used again until mid-July. Then, when my mother wanted to charge the radio for the first time since the repairs, we discovered the charging port was faulty.

I took it back to Makro on 28 July and was given a tough time by (one of) the female reps from TEVO. She held me responsible because I should have checked the radio before I left Makro's Returns desk. I responded that I thought that if TEVO repaired something, they would do the job properly. It was sent back for repairs and I collected it on Sunday, 13 August. This time I checked the charging port, which was why the radio was sent for repairs and was happy that it worked.

But, lo and behold, when I got home, the window and the little metallic finder (for lack of a better description) were faulty, and we could not search past the 95-98 FM bandwidth. My mother listens to RSG, which is 100-103 FM, so she cannot use the radio once again. However, this worked perfectly after the first and before the second round of repairs.

Due to a busy program, I have not yet been able to go back to Makro. But I am expecting a battle again with the Rep when I go this weekend.

It just seems like every time the radio goes in for repairs, there is a new problem. I am starting to wonder whether or not I'm getting the same repaired device back, or is it now just someone else's faulty device - as if they are just playing musical chairs with people's defective devices.
