Defective Bennet Read Vacuum Cleaner

How come am I being charged for ta defective vacuum cleaner motor? I understand the product has a two year warranty or guarantee. If this is not a warranty item, then what is? Surely the motor is the most important part of the product. I refuse to pay for this as the product was defective in the first place. It is supposed to have an auto cutout in the event of overheating, which never happened. Please advise. I cannot believe that this Bennet Read is such a poor make that it packs up after 18 months. I previously had a Rowenta wet and dry vacuum cleaner that lasted 23 years, which was still working, and we only replaced it as we could not get accessories for that machine anymore.
