Defective and horrible Bennet Read washing machine | Makro Centurion | Tevo
I bought a Bennett Read washing machine from Makro Centurion at the beginning of August 2024. The salesperson even convinced me to take insurance on top of the purchase. Barely a month later, on 6 September, this useless piece of junk shattered the glass inside its door. I reported the matter immediately to the on-site Tevo representative, who promised a technician would come on Monday, 8 September. I waited patiently, but by Wednesday, 10 September, NOTHING had been done. Only then did Makro and Tevo suddenly start scrambling, making empty promises about sending a technician “tomorrow.” This is a blatant violation of the South African Consumer Protection Act (CPA): SECTION 55: Consumers have the right to safe, good quality goods. This machine is clearly unsafe. SECTION 56: Within six months of purchase, I have the full right to a refund, replacement, or repair. I am now taking this ******* appliance back to Makro, and I am demanding a full refund immediately. I will not accept more delays, excuses, or false promises. Makro and Tevo’s conduct is disgraceful. Instead of taking accountability, they delay, mislead, and leave customers with dangerous appliances in their homes. This is not just bad service — it is ******* under the CPA. I am not one of those customers you think you can “manage.” I know my rights, and I will not hesitate to escalate this to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud, the National Consumer Commission, and pursue further legal action if my refund is not actioned without delay. Makro Centurion and Tevo — you should be ashamed. You sell ******* appliances, fail to back them up with any service, and treat paying customers with contempt. Consumers, be warned: do not waste your money here.
