My Teneo Story

Hello, my name is Veer , and this is my story.

I joined Teneo in 2021. Before that, I was in a traditional brick-and-mortar school, and my marks were not very good. I struggled with reading, which made it harder for me to understand my schoolwork, meant I often needed extra time, help, or practice, made it difficult to keep up with my class, and sometimes left me feeling frustrated because I couldn’t read as easily as others. Simple arithmetic felt painful, like pulling teeth. Learning felt difficult because many of the teachers lacked passion, often reading from the textbook in a dull, monotonous voice, barely looking up, and making the classroom feel more like a hospital waiting room than a place to learn. School became boring and stressful.

Additionally, bullying was a big problem for me. Some children teased me, pushed me, or left me out during playtime, which made the classroom and playground feel uncomfortable and less welcoming. None of the teachers did anything to help, and it often felt like the bullying was invisible to them, even when I really needed their support.

When COVID-19 arrived, kids could no longer attend regular schools, which caused big challenges for schools that weren’t equipped for online learning or flexible teaching. Many students didn’t have computers or internet at home, teachers struggled to adapt lessons for online classes, and learning slowed down because schools weren’t prepared to teach in this new way. This situation highlighted the school’s lack of flexibility and limited use of technology, even as the world was rapidly moving toward a more digital and connected way of learning.

I was asthmatic and had underlying health conditions, which meant I was considered high risk for contracting COVID-19. My mum was worried about my safety, especially because there was a lot of frustration with the school over ensuring that safety protocols were properly followed during exams to protect me. Because of this, she decided to enroll me in Teneo, so I could continue learning in a safer environment.

At first, online learning was challenging because I had to follow a strict schedule and adapt to new technology and classroom rules, like raising my hand online, muting myself, turning on my camera, and joining breakout rooms. My mum helped me by showing me how to write my schedule and set alarms to remind me of my classes and breaks. On top of that, Teneo had a support team that made the transition easier. We could join live calls and get the help we needed whenever we were stuck, which made learning online much more manageable.

After months of practice, I gradually learned to read properly and do basic maths, and my marks quietly began to improve more than ever before.

One of the things I appreciate most about Teneo is the way learning is delivered.

In live classes, the teacher shared their screen and explained the lessons clearly, while we could ask questions, interact with other students in real time, and stay involved. The teachers made learning fun and exciting by using games, videos, and other creative media.

Recorded classes let me rewatch lessons if I missed them or needed extra time to understand something. They gave me the flexibility to keep up when I was sick or away with my family, and also allowed my mum to see what was happening in the classroom since parents could attend as guest users.

Gone are the days when I felt like a fish, sleeping with my eyes open, and couldn’t wait for school to end. Now, I look forward to going to school every day to see my teachers and friends. I have also made a wonderful group of friends from all over the country and different parts of the world, and we have regular playdates and calls. Bullying is almost nonexistent. There is a zero-tolerance policy, and the school takes it seriously, making sure every learner feels safe.

There are plenty of school projects and assignments that challenge us to do our best, often accompanied by videos to guide us. Homework is submitted online for teachers to mark, and I have become more confident and skilled with the latest technology and apps. While the homework can be a lot, it truly prepares us for exams. Exams are conducted under strict conditions using the latest invigilator app to ensure proper conduct, and teachers are available online to provide support while we write, making the whole process fair and well-managed.

Since joining Teneo, I feel like I’ve grown so much, both academically and personally. The young timid boy I once was is gone and has been replaced with a confident, poised young man. Teneo has helped me become a better, more confident version of myself. It is truly one of the best and most effective learning platforms. The school doesn’t just teach. It cares for its learners, supports them, and ensures they are safe, all with love and passion.

I hope more students get the chance to experience Teneo’s dedication to education and character building. I plan to stay at Teneo until Grade 12 because I have excelled in all my subjects, especially my favorites like Natural Science, Maths, and Computers. I can grasp the study material easily and feel proud of the progress I have made.

I aspire to be a genetic scientist one day, and I am confident that with Teneo’s guidance and support, my dreams will come true.
